New season, new questions.

Our kids ski for many reasons, and those motivations will evolve as they grow. Take a few minutes and ask why they participate in BSF. And then, at the beginning of each season, ask yourself as a parent the following questions:

  1. Why did you sign your child up for skiing (and any other sports)?
  2. What do you hope your child gains from skiing?
  3. What is your role in your child's skiing experience?
  4. What is the "end goal" for your child's participation?

These questions come from the Utah State University Families in Sport Lab. For further context on this topic, watch this 7-minute video that covers why children participate in youth sports, and why they drop out. (Hint: parent pressure and an emphasis on winning are some of the top reasons for youth dropping out of sports.)
