Alpine Ends Season With OHG Championships

This past weekend the Bridger Ski Foundation carried on the longstanding tradition of hosting the Over the Hill Gang alpine race, or O.H.G as it is better known. The OHG race started at Bridger Bowl in 1974, and BSF was determined to continue this tradition no matter the challenges.

Snow conditions leading up to the race were challenging, with a few sunny days of 50-degree weather putting the race hill at stake. Fortunately, the weather cooled down and a few extra inches of snow blanketed the hill. BSF co-director and head competition coach, Kenny Wilson took on the task of Chief of Race. This was Kenny’s first time acting as Chief of Race and he did an outstanding job.

The race went off without a hitch, thanks to an incredible showing of volunteers and parent help. The weather window was perfect for the three days of racing. The sun was out, but the temperature remained cool, so the race track was in ideal condition. Almost 100 competitors traveled from 13 different ski clubs across the nation to attend OHG, which helped drop the penalty and allowed the Northern Division athletes an opportunity to score low USSA points. The low penalty, perfect weather, and great attitudes made OHG a fantastic race for all.

Athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers dressed up in fun costumes, and enjoyed one last racing opportunity for the 2021-2022 season. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect race to close out the season. This home race was the last time four BSF athletes would  push out of the start gate. The Alpine Competition Team will say goodbye to Marta Pendergast, Peyton Servais, Henry Pritham and Graham Estelle. These four athletes have been amazing to coach and we hope to see them back on the hill as BSF coaches in the future!

A huge thanks to the following businesses for sponsoring the 2022 OHG Championships: Dead Drift Fly Fishing Apparel, Stone Glacier, DMS Natural Resources, The UPS Store, Toyota, Les Schwab Tires, and The Lark.
