ABOUT SCOT
Scot Schmidt may be one of the most recognized and filmed skiers in the world, with a pioneering style that shaped the trajectory of modern freeskiing. His journey started when he fell in love with skiing as an Alpine racer. Scot grew up in Montana City, skiing with the Bridger Ski Foundation (then the “Bridger Ski Team”) through high school. In 1979, at the age of 19, he moved to Squaw Valley to pursue the dream of making the U.S. Ski Team. While he was chasing FIS races and working as a ski tech, he also came under the influence of some wild freeskiers who were jumping cliffs and skiing crazy lines. The financial pressures of ski racing ended his ski team pursuit, but Scot’s reputation of leaving ski tracks in high places got him invited to film his first Warren Miller film, and the rest was history. He went on to be in over 40 films, with a long career as a North Face sponsored athlete and as a designer and technical consultant on their Steep Tech line of skiwear. In 2003, Scot returned to Montana and today he is The Yellowstone Club’s Ski Ambassador. In 2013, he was inducted into the U.S. Ski Hall of Fame. His reputation and influence are undeniable, but in the end, it all still comes down to a love of skiing: In an interview with the North Face, Scot said, “I still get the same rush from skiing as when I was a kid.”
