SUN VALLEY, IDAHO - Bridger Ski Foundation Freeskier Vay O’Brien won her second straight U11 USSA Women’s Slopestyle Junior National Championship in Sun Valley, Idaho. Skiing with a cast on her broken thumb, O’Brien secured a gold in her age group, and also scored sixth among all women.
Caden McCullough narrowly missed the podium, finishing 4th in his M19 age group in the Big Air competition with an impressive double-flat spin.
Overall, Bridger Ski Foundation sent 10 Freeskiing and Freestyle (mogul) skiers to the USSA Junior Nationals in Sun Valley. Unfortunately, one of the top-ranked freeskiers, Luke Price, was unable to compete due to an injury. His sibling Jack Price (the 2015 U15 Big Air Jr. National Champion) qualified for the slopestyle finals in 5th place but then fell on his first run in the finals and finished 14th.
In the single moguls competition, Renner Skidmore and Dane Alexander both landed within the top 20 in the M15 category, finishing 9th and 15th, respectively.
Vay O'Brien celebrates gold with her BSF Freeskiing coaches.
O’Brien won all of the USSA Northern Division Slopestyle competitions throughout the season, and finished first in her age group and third overall at the USSA Intermountain Sun Valley Freestyle and Freeskiing Spectacular. The young standout also qualified for the USASA Junior Nationals Rail Jam competition, but declined the invitation to avoid missing too much school.
