Three athletes from the Bridger Ski Foundation Freeskiing Team qualified and competed at the USASA Pacific Northwest Regional Championships at Mt. Hood Meadows April 8-11. Anders Fanning, Soren Fanning, and Casper Lemley all represented the Bridger Ski Foundation.
Montana skiers are quick to strike up friendships despite the miles between their mountains, and this year’s group of freeskiers from Bozeman, Missoula and Whitefish was no exception. They have trained and supported each other throughout the season, and when they entered their last competition of the season, they proved they were Montana strong.
In the Freeski Junior (ages 17-18) event, BSF’s Soren Fanning took gold. Meanwhile, his sibling Anders Fanning took second in the Slopestyle Freeski Youth category (ages 15-16), bested only by Connor Byle of Whitefish. Missoula’s Jude Owens rounded out the podium in third, while BSF’s Casper Lemley was fourth in the youth category.
In the Open Class (15-22) Rail Jam, BSF Freeskiers claimed the top two spots, with Anders Fanning in first and Soren Fanning in second. Conner Byle of Whitefish took third.
A huge congrats to these dedicated skiers who have pursued their skiing passions this season and put the “team” into teamwork. USASA awarded Soren Fanning with a special, end-of-season honor, presenting him with the Kindness Award.
Freeski Coach Cody Ling, who was at home recovering from a knee surgery, was able to provide support to athletes via Facetime.
