Over the weekend, the BSF Freeski and Snowboard teams competed in Big Sky for their first regional event of the season. This event had over 40 competitors from across the state. After a very mild winter so far, we weren’t surprised to have subzero temps on the morning of competition day. Although the temps were low, the vibes were high, and BSF athletes were having a blast regardless.

The morning started with Slopestyle. A best of two runs format on a course that consisted of a cannon rail, two jumps, and a flat-down rail to finish. With variable conditions, competitors battled to have speed for all the features. When it was all said and done, we had many BSF athletes on the podium. One of the standout performances we saw was Brayden Reich putting down a super clean and technical run, landing him a 2nd place podium spot. Another snowboarder holding it down on the female side was Maren Linden who went huge in the jump section!

On the ski side we saw Zeke Copely, who struggled in training and fell on his first run, put it all down when it mattered on his second run and snagged second! Hudson Dail, in the same age group, put down one of his best slope runs of his athletic career and got the gold! Rounding out the same podium in third place for a BSF sweep, was Hudson Barbieri, who had a technical run of hitting features switch and forward with a huge cork 7!

After a quick lunch, athletes prepared for Rail Jam in the afternoon: A thirty-minute jam with six different rail features that athletes could choose from to try and showcase their best tricks on metal. For our snowboarders, we had Brayden Reich back on the podium with a bronze, and Kaiser Pellmann, who wasn’t able to put down a slope run, found redemption with a silver medal in Rail Jam!

Many of our skiers put down some very technical tricks, and some tricks they have never done before! When the jam was finished we had another BSF podium sweep in the Men’s 17-18 age group. In third place was Finn Klug who went double podium with a third in slopestyle as well! In second place was Jack Zimmer who was consistent all throughout the jam. In first place we had Henry Barbieri who also found redemption in rail jam and finished off the event with a 630 on to a rail!

Thanks to all of our parents and competitors who came out and braved the cold! We had so many notable moments and finishes in this event, too many to mention in a short write up so please take a moment to check out our event pictures and full results!
