Last weekend, the BSF Freeride team competed and brought the heat to “the John,” a technical staple of Bridger Bowl’s lower mountain, at the 3rd annual Bridger Bowl Freeride event. Although conditions were substandard, to say the least, every single athlete brought a positive mind set and a fierce competitive edge that put BSF athletes on the podium.

Oftentimes as a coach I have predispositions about the athletes’ attitudes before they even come to practice based on snow conditions. This winter has been especially tough, but last weekend these kids blew me away. The amount of stoke was unbelievable for the snow conditions, and as a coach that made me incredibly proud. Showing up and showing out.

As the winds picked up in the afternoon both days, judges and spectators hunkered down and got out that extra layer to stay warm. Although a bit nippy, the crowd at the base stayed strong all the way until the bitter end.

As for the judges, they stayed put and did their best to stay warm while sitting in the same spot for a respectable amount of time. As time went by and athletes ran the course, the sun slowly disappeared over the range and nicely timed out with the end of the competition. With minimal injuries and technical difficulties, this competition truly will be one for the books, and I for one cannot wait for next year.

A huge thanks to our sponsors, judges, athletes, coaches, volunteers, and parents for making this even possible.
