The Grand Targhee IFSA Regional 2* is an event that is widely anticipated for a lot of our BSF athletes. It’s a weekend filled with sunshine, great skiing, friendship, and competition. As for us coaches, it’s an amazing opportunity to see how far our athletes have progressed and improved throughout the season, which for us is truly priceless.
Thursday 2/26/26
While diving to Targhee in the second of two coaching cars, Tommy, Evan and I received a call from Lukas, who was already at the resort and had skied that day. He told that although they had received 20 inches of new snow in the past 72 hours, it had refrozen and was highly variable. Although initially we were a bit bummed, there was much warranted hope due to the northern aspect of the slope, but only time would tell.

Friday 2/27/26
After an aggressively early wakeup call, coaches and athletes arrived to Grand Targhee Resort for the first of two competition days. After much anticipation, we finally got to inspect the venue, and we were pleasantly surprised with the snow conditions. Chalky, soft and well-kept snow over the past few days made for excellent competition conditions. After inspection the comp ran, and I was so incredibly impressed with all our BSF athletes. It is always so much fun to be able to hang out at the bottom of a venue and watch all of the kids get stoked and cheer on their teammates! With a few of our athletes sitting on the podium after day one, everyone was looking forward to day two.

Saturday 2/28/26
Another day, another beautiful Teton Valley sunrise on the way up to the mountain. After we arrived for inspection, it was easy to understand that the BSF team was a powerhouse in today’s competition. With over 30 athletes competing, we far outnumbered every other team by at least half. For me, this team dynamic means so much, and watching all of these kids support each other makes me so happy as a coach.

After the competition wrapped up it was clear that BSF had put on a real show, and now it was time for the annual Targhee team shred (my favorite part of the weekend). Around 1:30, the majority of the u19 division gathered atop the dream catcher chair and for the next hour and a half, coaches and athletes shared some of the best top to bottom laps of the season. At awards, the stoke continued with loads of BSF podiums, and a U19 men’s podium sweep that did not disappoint, along with the U19 women taking three of the top five spots. It capped off an amazing weekend down in the Tetons.
