Hi everyone!
I’m writing to you from the other side of the country in Hanover NH, finishing up my last year at Dartmouth. I’ve been really enjoying training this fall and taking in all of the beautiful foliage scenery. Having spent the past 8 falls in the East, I’m realizing that this is likely my last Eastern fall for a while, so I’ve been savoring all of the moments a little extra. This year in general is so full of “lasts,” and my college experience has flown by way faster than I expected. While I’m starting to feel nostalgic about this chapter coming to a close, I am also getting really excited about what’s next, and especially training full-time with BSF starting in June after I graduate.
As usual, this fall has been a bit of a juggling game trying to balance school and training. Something I have been trying to emphasize is quality over quantity. It's hard to get in the same amount of training volume, but I have been working hard to have good-intensity workouts, good technique during easy skis, and making all of my training sessions focused and productive.
My training this past summer in Bozeman has definitely set me up well, with a solid fitness base and a greater emphasis on technique and speed. I have been doing my best to carry that momentum into the fall as I prepare for the racing season. I am getting psyched to head to my last Silverstar camp with the Dartmouth team and then joining up with BSF at the Cable Super Tour series to kick off my racing.
One really valuable lesson I have learned throughout my college years is the importance of managing health and recovery. I think fall is a particularly challenging time with the weather getting colder, ramping up training intensity, and being surrounded by germs. Especially living on a college campus, I have had to be extra conscientious about getting good sleep and hydration and avoiding germs. This fall, I’ve been embracing the cozy season and getting really good sleep which has helped me to feel more energetic and productive in everything I do throughout the day.
So all in all, the recipe this fall has been fun training, good views, and good health :) Getting psyched for the snow and to join back up with BSF for the cable super tour races in December!
Bye bye & thanks for being a part of my journey!
Nina
