BSF's young alpine racers partook in their first races of the season at Big Sky Resort last weekend. Athletes and coaches had a great time, and many of the racers landed on age group podiums and in the top 10.
Coach LaRue Seitz-Dettori noted that the races looked a little different this year due to COVID, but the athletes did great with the changes. Women and men raced on separate days, but one of the bonuses of the new format was that each team got to line up together, running the course one after the other. (Typically, they'd be staggered throughout the entire field.) "It was really great seeing them cheer each other on and support one another," said Coach LaRue.
On the giant slalom days, athletes completed two races (four runs) in a single day. "The GS days were very long with very few breaks and the weather was not great," said Coach Larue. "It didn't seem to change their outlook on the day, and they all seemed to have a great time, stayed positive, and skied fast."
Huge thanks to the BSF coaches Buck, Spencer, Bailey, Sam, Weston, Alexi, and LaRue!
