The BSF Nordic Elite Team (and a few BSF alumni) competed in the Lake Placid Super Tour and Eastern Cup races January 25-27, 2019. The Super Tour hits seven cities throughout the season, providing a racing circuit for the top domestic skiers and allowing them to earn points to possibly compete in World Cups and championships.
5K FREESTYLE WOMEN
BSF alum Sofia Shomento, skiing for Dartmouth College finished 11th in 16:09. BSF Elite skiers included Felicia Gesior, 18th in 16:45; Heather Mooney, 22nd in 17:10; and Hannah Cole, 24th in 17:40.
10K FREESTYLE MEN
BSF alum Akeo Maifeld-Carucci, now skiing with the Craftsbury Green Racing Project, was 2nd in 26:18. BSF Elite skier Max LaChance finished 14th in 27:33, followed by teammate Luke Brown in 15th in 27:42. Nick Power was 20th in 28:17.
SPRINT MEN
BSF’s Max LaChance qualified in 13th and Luke Brown in 17th. Both advanced as far as the quarterfinals.
SPRINT WOMEN
Three BSF Elite skiers had strong qualifying times for the sprint with Heather Mooney 9th, Felicia Gesior 13th, and Hannah Cole 24th. With stiff competition, they made it as far as the quarterfinals in each of their heats.
10K CLASSIC WOMEN
Felicia Gesior cracked into the top 10 with a 9th place finish (38:48). Heather Mooney and Hannah Cole were 14th (40:03) and 15th (40:04), respectively.
15K CLASSIC MEN
BSF’s Luke Brown was 15th (49:26), with Max LaChance 18th (50:28), and Nick Power 24th (52:23).
